Acne Scar Treatment – 6 Types you Must Know

Acne is a skin problem typically occurred as a result of clogging up skin pores by dead cells mixed with skin oils. Acne scars are typically categorized under three heads, as described by Jacob et al (2001). According to this categorization system, icepick, rolling and boxcar are the three types of acne scars prevalent worldwide. Icepick is the type of acne scar that refers to as a sharp narrow scar resembling like punctured with an icepick. This type of scar is narrower than 2mm and is lengthened through the deep dermis or subcutaneous layer.

Icepicks can not be cured with regular skin resurfacing treatments such as laser resurfacing or dermabrasion as because they are so deep down through the skin. Rolling scars are typically occurred on the subcutaneous tissues below normal appearing skin. These types of scars can be treated by rupturing up the subcutaneous fibrous bands. The third category on the list is boxcar scar which is generally found on the skin as a round to oval depression along with sharp vertical edges. This article sheds light on various segments associated with the acne scar treatment and its usages.

In practice, there are several methodologies that can be used as a mode for acne scar treatment; however, you need to be selective by analyzing its probable risks and benefits. In some cases, doctors and dermatologists prefer to recommend a combination of treatment, rather than using any single acne scar treatment. Let us explore few effective acne scar treatment procedures.

Dermal Fillers

There is a wide range of dermal fillers that can be recommended by dermatologists ensuring to provide a smoother look on the skin. It is injected on the skin to make the surface raised. Typically, human collagen, polytheyl-methacrylate micropsheres with collagen, bovine collagen, hyaluronic acid derivatives and fat are used as dermal fillers. However, these fillers do not offer any permanent solution, hence further injection is necessary.

Laser Resurfacing

Many skin problems get cured by laser surfacing. Two types of laser surfacing are commonly used – carbon dioxide and erbium: YAG. It follows the mechanism of skin burning of outer skin layer to a specific depth. The healing process is followed with a restructuring of skin texture using newer appearing skin. The post-operative phase matters a lot for ensuring the actual success of the surgery.

Punch Excision

It is essentially used in boxcar and icepick types of acne scar treatment. A punch biopsy tool is used as according to the size of the scars. Scars are expunged with the help of the punch tool and the open skin edges are stitched up together. This newly developed scar however fades in time.

Skin Graft Treatment

This is an extended part of punch excision, a type of acne scar treatment. In this method, open skin edges are not stitched up rather the scar area is grafted with skin taken from the back of the ear. At the post-operative phase, variation in color and texture may be noticeable; however, it can be corrected successfully using laser resurfacing technique.

Punch Elevation

In this method, a punch biopsy tool is used to remove the base of the scars. After removing, the punch tool is used to elevate the base and to attach it to the surface area of the skin. This acne scar treatment is beneficial in terms of reducing the risk of getting skin in different color or texture.

Subcutaneous Incision

This method is particularly useful for treating rolling scars. It works by breaking the fibrous band which is responsible for developing rolling scars. The process is done using a beveled needle below the skin. It is kept parallel to the skin surface and then the needle gently cuts tethering bands. There are mainly two apparent risks associated with this procedure. One is bleeding and the other one is development of subcutaneous nodules. However the possibility of risks can be minimized with appropriate medications.

Acne Counter Over Scar Treatment – is There an Acne Scar Natural Treatment Method

Today, if you were to walk into any pharmacy, you will notice there are literally hundreds of acne counter over scar treatment products available.

Most acne scar treatment products are divided into 2 categories.

One are the chemical based products. These usually contain benzoyl peroxide, salycic acid or even accutane.

The other type are natural acne scar treatment products where the ingredients are made from plants and herbs.

So which type of acne scar product is better?

It’s difficult to day which is better since each person’s acne and skin condition is different. However, chemical based products tend to produce better results in the short term but they can be rash on the skin causing redness and irritation. It is not recommended to use them long term

Natural based acne products are natural and have less side effects. However, it takes a longer time to see results.

If you are uncertain as to which acne otc scar treatment product works for you, the best advice I can give you is to consult your doctor or dermatologist first. You have a better chance of curing your acne with the advise of a doctor than you testing the products yourself.

However, if you really want to buy acne counter products yourself, you need to first determine the type of skin condition you have. Is your skin oily, dry or sensitive? Do you have allergies to certain chemicals?

Seek the help of the pharmacist. They will be better able to recommend you a acne counter over scar treatment product out of the hundreds of acne products in their store.

Personally, I prefer natural acne scar treatment products as they have less side effects and can be taken in the long term.

How to Find the Best Blemish Acne Cream That Works

If you happen to be suffering from acne then you already know that if you let it, acne can affect your self esteem and allow you to digress in your self confidence. You also know that you need to find a cure for this problem and your best solution to start with is to use a blemish acne cream.

Two proven blemish acne creams that get results

Although there are hundreds of acne creams available you really should do your research in finding the top acne creams available. You need to look for the ones that have been tried, tested and proven and have at least an outstanding track record. In particular you need to find out if these acne creams treat even the most stubborn and recurring of acne problems. The following are two excellent products to start with.

Proactive

Proactiv cream happens to be one the most popular and effective creams available for anyone suffering from acne. It’s one of the favorites simply because it is suitable for all skin types and it is also very affordable. You can get Proactiv at just about any local store offering over the counter health products. Trying this product is the first step in determining an effective acne treatment.

Derma Cleanse Cleanser

A second popular recommendation for a blemish acne cream is a product called Derma Cleanse Cleanser. With excellent healing results that treat very dry to very oily skin, this product is mild on your skin but a very acne treatment providing results that you would expect in an acne cream.

Use These Tips When Comparing

When you are shopping for an acne cream you need to be aware of a few things such as the active ingredient listing that can be found right on the box and label. You are looking for the primary active ingredient that is effective in both creams and gels. That ingredient is known as benzoyl peroxide. This ingredient gives the most dramatic results in solving your acne problem. Always be sure to follow the pharmacists instructions when using any the products you purchase.

Price can be added to the list when you are comparing. Of course you need to be certain that the product you buy is not overly priced but also you don’t want to end up with the cheapest product that will provide poor results either. The best guideline is to do your homework and also by reading the labels while you are in the store. This might sound time consuming but you just want to make sure you are getting an acne cream that is best for you.

With all that said, you might think that it is not as easy to just go to the store or pharmacy and buy any blemish acne cream. While that might have a hint of truth, you of course don’t want to end up spending money only to have that acne cream sitting in your medicine cabinet either.

Just remember these important points, you won’t always have this acne problem and “it is curable” – just do a little research and you will be fine. If your problem is more serious then the best course of action is to always consult with your doctor.

Clear Skin

June 24th, 2010 No comments

What two cleansers will keep my skin clear and radiant?

I’ve tried using one in the past, but that hasn’t very much helped. I want a combination of 2 cleansers i can use at one time so i can acheive clear skin. What brands do you recommend also would using benzoly peroxide 2.5% at night be helpful?

OK for as long as I can remember I only washed my face with water because anything would make me break out, well finally this caught up to me and I had very noticeable blackheads on my forehead nose and chin…YUK!! I also had combination skin so parts were dry and some oily so it was hard to treat. Here is what works great for me, I saw a huge improvement in just one day and my skin is so soft and clear..and I use both products a few times a day and it never dries out my face:
Clean & Clear Warming Daily Pore Scrub (feels so good)
Clean & Clear Cooling Daily Pore Toner
and about once a week I use: Clean & Clear Blackhead Clearing Astringent instead of the Toner
And like I said in the past nothing worked for me and this worls like magic!! I love it!! and highly reccomend this regimin

Benzoyl Peroxide

June 22nd, 2010 No comments

What is a good benzoyl peroxide acne wash?

I have tried a 5% benzoyl peroxide and didn’t see any results. I want to try one with 10% benzoyl peroxide but I am wondering which one is the least drying but still effective. My main acne problem is blackheads and I head benzoyl peroxide is very helpful at getting rid of them. Does anyone know an effective, inexpensive face wash with 10% benzoyl peroxide? Thanks!
